Birds of the Backyard from the last 24 hours ~ a thread

~ Starting with the Quail family stopping by last night and being spooked by the neighbors cat. Here's Dad making sure all the kiddos got to safety.
~ After the Quail reorganized and left one Lesser Goldfinch stopped by, a rare visitor these days 2/-
~ Male Allen's Hummingbird getting a evening fill up at the feeders 3/-
~ Moving on to this morning one of the first birds to the seed bonanza are the Band-tailed Pigeons. They're pretty skittish but will inhale all the seed 4/-
~ The rest of the morning the yard is dominated by the California Scrub Jays and they're kids. Their constant "Skreets" and other calls fill the yard as they claim all the peanuts 5/-
~ Meanwhile the Hooded Orioles attack the grape jelly (if they don't see me), their clicky whirring calls are the second most abundant calls next to the Jays 6/-
~ Note: I have never seen so many Hooded Orioles as this year, I only started putting out jelly a year ago. Previous years I only put out sugar water and the occasional orange half 6.1/-
~ Every 20 minutes or so a Turkey Vulture would fly over (maybe the same one IDK). They don't stop at the feeders, maybe I should put out some meat scraps and see if they stop 😁 7/-
~ The Black-headed Grosbeaks seem to be regular visitors these days, I counted two females and a male (I just missed a pic of the male â˜č) 8/-
~ I started to look around the front yard to try and spot any missing cast members and sure thing California Towhee was watching it's fledgling forage on the lawn 9/-
~ Male Nuttall's Woodpecker's call is very distinctive but finding him is not so easy. Luckily he liked this spot and I got lucky 10-
~ Male Acorn Woodpecker chased the Nuttall's off and then preened himself triumphantly 11-
~ White-breasted Nuthatch made getting a picture very difficult 12/-
~ A regular in the yard is the Oak Titmouse. I've noticed a couple of very inquisitive ones that I'm thinking are kids 13/-
~ The Anna's Hummingbirds can only be described as a hoard. Pics are difficult when they bounce off each other all day 😁 14/-
~ The House Finches are a joy to watch even when they're watching the skies for trouble 15/-
~ The Eurasian Collared Dove are another timid backyard regular but they're pretty cute for an invasive species 16/-
~ Last but not least is this little Black-chinned Hummingbird he doesn't like the crowds so he uses the Oriole's feeder a lot 16/16
~ Bonus 17/16 A few birds that I missed today where a Crow, Spotted Towhee and a Mourning Dove but while I was sitting quietly the Juvie Scrub Jays kept flying up to me and checking me out I think they may be getting too acclimated to people đŸ„°
