one thing that people don't seem to understand about France is that while yes, there are quite a lot of fires and acts of vandalism in churches, there are far more churches than curés, and people don't have their eyes on them 24/7.
I'm not denying that a combination of forces make for a very uncomfortable reality for practicing Christians here.

but people tend to overplay both the leftists and the Islamists here, when an easier explanation would be bored young people or the mentally ill, especially when the perp isn't caught.

also, a lot of these churches are under repair (easy cause of fires) or closed except for occasional Masses, so no one's there keeping an eye on it 24/7... so *that* ought to be the real focus. There aren't enough Christians (for now?).
