Thread. I'm not currently designing, but I'll add a little bit about my own numbers. https://twitter.com/wipinsanity/status/1284537644706398209
My biggest pattern was Clothilde. I got lucky in a bunch of different ways. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/clothilde
I had only knit one lace triangle before, so when I decided to design my own, I had to make it simple because I didn't have the experience to make a complicated design.
It came out right as shawl-mania was hitting in the knitting world. And it's incredibly easy to knit, totally modular, and can be knit in any weight. Additionally, @byVanessaSmith, who had an online yarn store at the time, started a KAL for it. So it went big.
At the peak, for a few months, I was making around $1800 a month on this one pattern, which was enough to pay my rent at the time.
(A side note is that you should absolutely look at Vanessa's own patterns, which are GORGEOUS.) https://www.ravelry.com/designers/vanessa-smith
Oops, I broke the thread. It continues here. https://twitter.com/KHandozo/status/1284554351185326080
