Thinking about Portland, in as much as certain kinds of state repression represent Trump's machinations, I think he has been texting the degree to which different state structures are in his pocket. 1/5

When Trump threatened to send the military in a few weeks ago, the Pentagon shot that down. So not the kind of support there that he wanted, okay. 2/5

In Portland, the cops have been colluding with US Customs & Border Control and the Dept of Homeland Security without support of state government. Trump is sowing support & figuring out what tools of the state he can use effectively. 3/5

This includes deputizing civilians as ICE agents. While the ruling class is not homogeneous, it is uniformly terrified and looking for a way to establish order. I think that is not impossible that these recent events are a shadow of what we will see in November. 4/5

Perhaps not the actual US military, but all the same I think we will see a militarized resistance (maybe by homeland security, etc) to any shift in power. This adds another reason to the long list of what voting is not the harm reduction, but sticking your head in the sand. 5/5
