NBA "Bag" versus MLB pitching, a thought:

If MLB analysts thought like Bag Twitter, then Yu Darvish would be the greatest pitcher of all time, because he knows the most pitches (he has 9 or 10 different tracked pitches, the most of any pitcher), so his bag is clearly very deep
And, Yu is a quality pitcher, but no one would argue that he's the greatest pitcher ever, because success in pitching isn't just knowing a lot of pitches, or even throwing those pitches for an occasional strike, success in pitching is determined by sustained production over time
Regardless of the number, or types of pitches used to achieve that production. We should do a better job emulating that analysis in basketball, MJ was an actual scoring genius, he used his elite footwork, Kryptonian athleticism, and detailed understanding of his opponents to
score at a high level throughout his career, watching him add a midrange and post game was like seeing a talented pitching prospect figure out how to consistently throw strikes with an offspeed pitch, it made him nearly unguardable. But, it was his decision-making that made them
useful, just like learning a new pitch doesn't help a new pitcher if they can't command it. Shaq was the classic fireballing fastball pitcher (think Aroldis Chapman) just because you know what's coming, doesn't mean you can hit it, and Shaq proved with drop step after
drop step that when your fastball is that good that you don't need anything else. Bag is great, but production (particularly efficient production) matters most
