FRIENDSHIP DOESN´T NEED A COVER-UP. If Larry were friends and L and E a loving couple, we´d see at least some evidence that they are happy together. Nothing like that has ever happened. And also, 8 years and not only no engagement, but also rumours about engagement 2x denied.+

+ while we have multiple evidence that the boys spend a lot of time together (mostly from L himself, but also from other people - their mutual friends or acquaintances). Any time the line is crossed, damage control follows. If it was a friendship, this wouldn´t be necessary.
