Thread: How Ferran Torres will help Manchester City offensively

Likes and RT’s appreciated! #MCFC
Before I go on, one of the apps I’ll be using to prove my point is called “smarterscout”. As shown below, they use specific algorithms to rate players on their abilities in certain aspects.

And before you say “it’s like fifa ratings!!”, no it’s not. Go study on analystics first.
1/? With 1 year remaining on his contract, Ferran Torres has been heavily linked with a potential move to #MCFC.

Playing 68% of Valencia’s minutes, the 20 year old winger participated in 19% of Valencia’s league goals.
2/? While that may not be amazing, it must be taken into account his young age. Additionally, football is more than goals and assists, which is what I’m going to dive into.
3/? Predominately as a RM, Torres focuses his play (obviously) down the right side, mostly picking up the ball either in his own half or in the opposition half. This is completely different to Leroy Sané, who picked the ball up normally on the LW or in the half-space.
4/? What would this bring City? Width. As a right-winger, Torres would occupy the right side of attack like 2017/18 Sterling used to do, allowing Kevin de Bruyne to float back into the half spaces.

He‘s also work on the left a cover for Sterling, not conflicting w/ the City LB.
5/? As shown by the 2 models below, Ferran Torres (left) is nowhere near as good as Leroy Sané (right) shooting-wise. However, his dribbling is very good, and the fact it’s rated higher than Leroy Sané is a huge compliment.
6/? Furthermore, his heading ability (especially on dead balls, something City need help with a lot) is substantially better than Leroy Sané’s, making him a perfect fit for the current system put in place by Pep.
7/8 Essentially, by obtaining Torres, Guardiola will have the option to finally be able to reinforce Raheem Sterling on the left with a similar backup, something we have largely missed.

This would be a huge signing for our squad, and enforces the idea Pep won’t change tactics.
8/8 As said numerous times before by top people in football, it’s more important to watch a footballer than use stats to judge them.

So, while watching Valencia’s last game a few days ago, I saw how good Torres played. His dribbling is class, he’s a great passer too.
