There are clearly many people benefiting from the current COVID pandemic. Manufacturers of oximeters are certainly among them.
I don't always trust Amazon when it comes to purchasing electronic items, so decided to go to my regular pharmacy to purchase one.

The cover said it was manufactured in China, but there was no date of manufacture. When I asked about the warranty, the chemist smiled and said, "Aare Madam, aap to hame jante hain. Phir warranty kis liye."
Because it could be life or death, I wanted to tell him. But didn't.

The next chemist I went to showed me one that that only had the name and address of the importer. And the next two chemists didn't even have that.
Electronic toys come in packages that look more professional than the ones those three oximeters were in.

The same pattern repeated itself at every chemist I went to. Shoddy packaging, insufficient information on manufacturer and importer, no warranty.
The attitude was clear. Take it if you are desperate, but don't come back to us if it doesn't work.

At the 11th chemist I went to, I finally got an oximeter that came with a 6 month warranty.

Leaves me wondering how many of those other oximeters are genuine imports and how many are just toys assembled in a garage in Ulhasnagar.

What if they fail?
