Today is the 200th day of 2020.

565 days ago on 01 January 2019 I started lifelogging.

Here's a thread on what / why and how I do it.

When I first started I didn't know it was called lifelogging. I just wanted to keep track of my days.

Every day you get up, do a bunch of things and then go to bed. But if I asked you what you did say 420 days ago, could you tell me?

Lifelogging can be as high level or as detailed as you like, but being able to go back to a point in time e.g. this day last year and see what I did / felt / thought or ate helps me see if I am moving forward or am stood still in life.

Last year I decided I wanted to get fit, and lifelogging was a big part of helping me on that journey. I started by just tracking what I ate and what exercise I did.

I lost 4 stone and am currently the fittest I have ever been and the unfittest I ever plan to be again.

There are a bunch of apps that are useful to start lifelogging and even ones specific for it but I don't rely on the apps.

I start each morning by copying a dated folder that contains a file named notes.txt and a nested folder DailyPhoto.
The notes.txt file has the following format:
The top section I use for tracking things that happen throughout my day e.g what time I got up, went to bed, had lunch, what I worked out etc...
All other sections are pretty self explanatory except maybe "stats"
Some days I open that file once in the morning and once just before bed, other days I fill it out as I go along.
I still use other apps to keep track of things e.g:
MyFitnessPal : I use throughout the day but at the end I write it all in the notes.txt file
I have been doing it for so long now that its just part of my daily routine.

Forcing yourself to capture your day, helps clear your thoughts and over time as you do it more and more you realise you remember more and more of the little details that happen throughout your day.
Anyway I just thought I would share that. I think everybody should give it a go, you might be surprised what you learn about yourself just by doing that one simple thing daily.
