The A in various queer acronym has historically stood for ally bc historically allyship meant straight people working for actual material harm reduction and legal protection for queer people, rather than meaningless gestures in the age of twibbons and temp profile frames.
I'm talking abt straight allies who gave respite to AIDS patients, who fostered queer youth, PFLAG at a time when supporting your own queer kids was something you could be ostresised for. Not "signs petitions but won't correct your friends when they're transphobic" allyship
Also allyship as a protective identity for queers who aren't safe coming out yet. That's why so many schools have "straight inclusive" clubs, when they're allowed to have any at all.
So "A doesn't stand for ally" I get, but "A never stood for ally" is just bunk
Like this whole conversation feels like meaningless derailment every single time it comes up, either from people who want to oust asexuals or cishet ppl wanting to centre their social justice point scoring, we need to stop falling for the trap of engaging such bad faith shit
