About two weeks after the shooting, a few of us went up to lobby in DC. we were fresh with a grief we didn’t understand and trauma we hadn’t processed. But we went, and we had meetings with seemingly endless politicians who didn’t really care about us. It was exhausting (1/3)
We found out later on in the day, though, that we were going to visit Rep. John Lewis’ office. We entered that room, wide eyed, as we saw walls scattered with photos from his days on the forefront of the fight for civil rights. He sat down with us and shared his memories (2/3)
of his 5 dollar suit and hardest struggles. i remember feeling a weird blend of emotions. sadness, yes, but hope. he gave us hope that we didn’t know we were missing. John Lewis gave us hope then and he gave us hope every day after. Thank you, Rep. Lewis. Rest Easy. (3/3)
