Born in Rottweil, Germany, Kimmich began his youth career with VfB Stuttgart before moving on to RB Leipzig in July of 2013.
After being purchased by Bayern Munich for €7 million, he’s now become a mainstay in the team and is on the verge of superstardom.

Playing Style:
Kimmich used to play right back, but has found great success at Defensive Midfielder. Despite his position, his numbers read more like he plays Central Midfield, as opposed to sitting in that DM role like most other 6s in football.

My Thoughts:
I’ve coined the term “Progressive Six” because of players like Kimmich. Defensive Mids who can still pull the strings in midfield while also putting in a shift defensively. This season alone he’s produced 13 g/a from DM. Kimmich’s upside is greater than just a DM.

Conclusion:
I believe Kimmich is the future of the Defensive Mid position. We’re already seeing teams try and convert central mids to that DM role, for better or worse. With a successful run in the Champions League, Kimmich could show the world his true brilliance.
