THREAD: Yesterday’s example of egregious behaviour displayed by Cllr Alasdair Ross reminded me of the numerous times this “hard-working Labour councillor” operates freely as Ipswich Labour’s very own thought police officer.
I was reminded that this ‘O’Brien’ figure, who I’m told is at the heart of Ipswich CLP, has a long history of making his feelings known, e.g. in September 2018, after Suffolk Coastal CLP announced the results of the NEC Elections. Similar instances followed.
Fast forward to January this year, we were preparing for yet another political education event, this time with @TheCanaryUK’s @TheMendozaWoman. Lo and behold, O’Brien pops up once again to shout his disapproval, but this time it’s about the choice of guest speaker. Go figure.
I felt it necessary to write to the then Chair of Ipswich Labour, Cllr Bryony Rudkin. Two letters were sent; one to offer commiserations for Sandy Martin’s defeat in the GE, the other was to express regret and sadness over their councillors’ online behaviour. No response.
For someone who seemingly spends a considerable amount of time slating socialists on Twitter, you have to wonder what time he has left to offer support for the care workers, care homes and the vulnerable in his ward during this pandemic?
As has been previously mentioned by others on numerous occasions before, such behaviour traits along with the misogynistic bullying and harassment of fellow councillors, is well known to the Ipswich CLP Executive. And yet it continues to be tolerated. @UKLabour why?
