I enjoy the bears twitter back and forth, I feel there is enough piling on Tru that I don’t ever really need to dive into it as it’s already over the top & clearly other facets of the screwed up O & thus sabatoging of a young QB get missed. HOWEVER, areas #10 needs to improve...
1. Anticipation throws, particularly on the short stuff Nagy draws up, he’s half a tick late and w the way Ds play the bears & way we scheme, he almost needs to be a 1/4 sec early—he sees it, but needs to believe it, I like all work he’s putting in this offseason w his group
2. Staying comfortable in pocket after 2 beats, it was more rare than it should be for any QB, but trubisky behind a bad o line developed a bad habit in 19 of after his 2nd read drifting out of a clean pocket that coaching never corrected, he has to believe in his IOL play more
3. RPO—Ppl overstate it and cherry pick the misses, he actually ran the RPO very well at UNC and I’m surprised he’s had moments of overthinking it in nagy system but I see that across the bears offense—overthinking. Most part I think he can clean this up w a better staff arnd him
As far as deep ball accuracy and all that goes I’m not worried, by some studies he was ranked higher than Foles, in college his deep ball accuracy was there, throwing to 5’8 targets downfield in Chicago isn’t the easiest, especially where you get maybe 1 shot a game
Where mitch will excel is when the bears stretch the field more, they now have resources in Ginn, Mooney, and most importantly a TE group that can demand MOF is watched, whereas before they had NOTHING. This is no small deal, if line can block & bears spread field..well...
Mitch becomes a major threat to run. His athleticism was top notch in college. He made numerous plays moving around the pocket and w the threat for run. Bears just let teams sit in nickel all day and stymie them last year. Lot of fixes needed to help the QB do what he’s good at
Lastly I’ll say I believe in the new staff helping mitch reach his potential. Also having 3 NFL caliber TEs vs 0 last year. No small development. It’s a make or break year for certain, but if there is a season (doubt it) and he stays healthy, id expect bears to see major ROI
Too many elite throws made by Trubisky, elite runs, to throw him in the trash. In games where the bears were facing weaker interior pass rush, mitch and co had success going downfield where he is comfortable. Deep intermediate. Should be focus of 2020
