About masks and COVID-19

Staff working wore one of these or something like it

Patients with COVID might have worn one of these

If that didn’t work, some patients might have worn one of these masks

And if that didn’t work, some patients didn’t need a mask. They needed a breathing tube inserted and a ventilator to breathe for them. They needed drugs to paralyse their muscles, they needed turning onto their front to help their oxygen levels.

Some patients needed a hole made in their neck, a tracheostomy, so we could start reducing the drugs and the level of support and getting them to breathe for themselves.

Some patients with COVID-19 never made it to any of these stages. Many died despite the best care imaginable.

The masks we are asking people to wear now pale into insignificance compared to those masks. Compared to those options....
