Flood situation in #Assam is really grave and relief & rehabilitation is the need of the hour. But can we also think beyond waiting for the annual flood every year, moving those affected to relief camps and praying for help to GoI?(1/6) #AssamFloods @MinOfJalShakti @keshab_mahanta
Few quick thoughts:
1) To make -finding a workable solution to flood problem, as Agenda No 1 by the state government
2) To prepare a master plan/strategy for sustainable flood management, a strategy which doesn’t entirely depend on construction and repair of embankments (2/6)

3)River bank erosion is equally a major challenge which needs to be addressed adequately as emergency measures (3/6)
4) To equip and prepare the people living in the riverine ares to co-exist with flood and have advance preparation for the flood season which may even include alternative emergency shelters/dwelling units with minimum amenities for accommodation during sudden flood (4/6)
5) Why can’t we have a timeline for construction/repair of embankments every year? Why every time we have to wait till Feb-March to get the tenders issued and execution to start in March-April? (5/6)
So that by the time work starts there will be rain and flood. The result is well understood. The contractors benefit and people suffer. Can’t we stop this? (6/6)
