This tweet is born out of the latest brouhaha between @_VALKlNG & Ogudu police station.
Do you ever wonder, Whenever @segalink & his team exposes the illegal activities of 3 @PoliceNG officers, 5 commits same or worse crimes the following week?

Based on our usual way in Nigeria, we call them the bad eggs in the @PoliceNG, that must be weeded out like grass. Yet these eggs kept multiplying, and we keep weeding the ones we could notice, without bothering to know that bad hen, who has been laying those bad eggs.
Few years after i was humiliated and illegally detained by the @PoliceNG at Area F Ikeja, simply because i played the role of a good Samaritan to an accident victim, i got a job with a reputable news agency in Lagos. My jurisdiction was crime reporting. https://twitter.com/Truthfully83/status/1214475781834973186?s=19
That job exposed me to the current happenings, and realities of the Nigerian society, security wise. Most especially within the Nigerian @PoliceNG. Let me state it equivocally, THE @PoliceNG IS WORST THAN A ROTTEN EGG. Yes quote me anywhere. They are beyond redemption.
My story
My story
My editor was a fantastic journalist who loves his job, and was good at it. We became very close, so he started posting me out to cover @PoliceNG press briefings, parading of suspects, different @PoliceNG divisions & Area commands in Lagos, for on the spot assessment of crimes.
I became very familiar with Lagos State @PoliceNG command, and their workings. But i must confesses, that the rot in the police is too enormous, and the @PoliceNG is truly smelling.
WHEN THE HEAD OF THE FISH IS BAD, THE BODY IS GONE.
That's the case of the @PoliceNG.

Lagos State Police command Headquarters Ikeja, is the place for the parade of suspects, by the commissioner of police. It is always a beehive of activities. suspects would be lined up alongside journalist. The C. P will address the press, after which, we can interview. Example

The days for parade differs. It could be any day inside the month, as the command or the commissioner of police deems fit. But it is very exciting when it falls on a Monday.
The command usually holds it's weekly state briefings between D.P.O's & the commissioner on Monday's.
The command usually holds it's weekly state briefings between D.P.O's & the commissioner on Monday's.
So we as journalist will have the privilege of meeting different D.P.O's in Lagos State, take their personal phone numbers, & exchange contacts. It was during one of such parades, i knew some hidden secrets, & the extent of rot in the police. Especially Lagos State command.
I attended a parade with my editor, who had an appointment with the commissioner of police. After the weekly state briefings with D.P.O's, and the parade of suspects, the commissioner retreated to his office to attend to visitors. So my editor and i went to see him.
While waiting to see the commissioner police, his P. A passed us. His hands were filled with plenty of envelopes. My editor looked at me
and said returns. I was confused, i couldn't phantom it. He promised to explain on our way back to the office.

So as we were driving back to the office, my editor told me things that forever changed my feelings about the police, especially Lagos State command. He told me those envelopes carried by that P.A is for the commissioner of police. And it contains twenty thousand naira each.
That those monies are returns from those D.P.O's we saw today at the state command. That every Monday, every D.P.O in Lagos State, must come with twenty thousand naira, for the commissioner, when coming for the weekly state briefings with him. Or else, you are no longer a D.P.O
And the commissioner of police, takes half of whatever is realize from the D.P.O's in the state, to the inspector general of @PoliceNG During their IGP and commissioners meeting and briefings. or else, he or she is removed as a state commissioner of police.
As of then, we had 103 Divisional police stations, or headquarters in Lagos state command, Now it's 107 today. So let's do the maths together. 103
20000 = 2060000 every week, and 8240000 every month.

The commissioner of police care less, how those D.P.O's make those monies, likewise the IGP, care less how those CP's makes those monies. So based on what my editor told me, i launched my personal investigations. I spoke to some D.P.O's, and they corroborated my editor's claims.
One D.P.O, who became a very close friend of mine, in Lagos State Police command, told me that, as a D.P.O, you are under undue pressure from the state commissioner of police, who is also under undue pressure from the IGP. That everyone wants to keep their jobs or positions.
So as a D. P. O, the police hierarchy naturally expects you to extort monies with your men, from the general public, and bring in their returns. As a D.P.O, you are expected to fuel patrol vehicles often, and also light up the station, when little or nothing is giving to you.
In a bid to meet up, D.P.O's deploy their men to extort from commercial vehicles, bikes and tricycles, even going on mass raids. Empty Buses with some police officers are deployed to drive around town, arresting anyone they could place their hands on.
I was informed by my editor that, those 20k weekly returns use to be somehow a secret, until a certain commissioner of police came. He made it an open secret. Then we had 89 police divisions in Lagos state police command.
That C.P pretended to be a good man that was fighting crime in the state. But he was highly corrupt. When he was transferred out of Lagos state, his transfer caused a lot of squabble between the police authorities and the state. According to my editor, that man was evil.
When a D.P.O doesn't meet up with his target, and the week is fast running out, he goes with his men on illegal patrol or arrest. mostly raiding. Just to mop up cash for the commissioner of police the coming Monday. Sometimes the D.P.O share his men into different groups.
As new governors are elected, so also changes continue to happen steadily, with the appointment of new IGP's. Some came in with their various plans & polices, which restricted the activities of Okada's, tricycles, & roots for commercial buses, D.P.O's also changed tactics.
They pushed the burden to make returns even harder, and became more brutal to ordinary citizens. They started indiscriminate arrest of young men on top of motorbikes during working hours, accusing them falsely, to be criminals, to extort monies from them.
They stop people on private cars, taxi cab, uber or taxify, illegally plant weed on them, & accuse them of smoking or selling weed. They force them to own up on gun point, then extort monies from them as bail. Any well dressed young man is branded a fraudster, & must be extorted.
D.P.O's collect settlements from brothels, send out patrol teams to chase and arrest bikes, intimidate and harass anyone, just because he or she must generate money for the police station. If a brothel fails to pay, he will send his men with vans to go raid such brothel.
When restrictions to their activities increased drastically, and commissioners of police care less how they generate their cash, they all diverted their attention to young men. Every young man using an internet enabling phone, is branded a potential scammer. And must be stopped.
They positioned themselves in strategic locations, as directed by the DPO, just like the police in Ogudu did with @_VALKlNG waiting for potential prey. If anyone is seen, he is whisked away in their vehicle to the station, they will intimidate and extort you, even on gun point.
Please note this, the IGP is at liberty to post whoever he likes, as commissioner of police in a state, provided you are of the rank. And Lagos State is a state of special interest. The IGP only post who understands the police language without excuses to Lagos State.
So don't be deceived, when commissioners claim to be saints, & are ready to end corruption/ impunity in Lagos State Police command. They are all the same tern & tempest. The commissioner will only post officers that understands the police language as DPO's to different stations.
And for your information, 95% of illegal police activities, gets the backings and approvals of D.P.O's. Although there are some police officers who takes advantage, to go for their personal illegal duties. What most police officer do is, they normally shortchange their D.P.O's.
But for the D.P.O to claim ignorance of their activities, that's a big fat lie. They only ones that are giving out for prosecutions, are those who went out on illegal duties of their own. If the D.P.O is fully aware, he or she goes to the C.P, to plead on the officers behalf.
