MAIN INSIGHTS from @IAmMarkManson's Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck [0/5]

1. Let go of society's expectations
2. Pursuing the positive leads to negative
3. Find something meaningful to give fucks about
4. Suffering is inevitable but it's ok
5. Embrace uncertainty
1. Our culture creates unrealistically positive expectations: Be happier. Be healthier. Be the best...

But most people are average and get disappointed.

Accepting that most of your life won't be noteworthy lifts a huge weight off your back. You'll feel more potent and alive.
2. "The more you pursue feeling better all the time, the less satisfied you become, as pursuing something only reinforces the fact that you lack it in the first place."

"paradoxically, the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience."
3. "If you find yourself consistently giving too many fucks about trivial shit that bothers you, chances are you don’t have much going on in your life to give a legitimate fuck about."

Finding something meaningful in your life is perhaps the most productive use of your energy.
4. Everybody suffers. You can decide to try to run away from it or embrace it and let it make you better

"We have evolved to live with a certain degree of dissatisfaction, because it’s the mildly dissatisfied and insecure that’s going to do the most work to innovate and survive"
5. "Certainty is the enemy of growth."

"Growth is an endlessly iterative process. When we learn something new, we don’t go from “wrong” to “right.” Rather, we go from wrong to slightly less wrong."

Uncertainty also removes our judgments of others and of ourselves.
