The more I think about transgenderism and the suffering that these ideas cause in individuals and society, the more I realise that the ideology is in part at least, a symptom of a culture saturated with individualism. And particularly the idea that ‘self expression’ is ALL.
The idea that Self Expression is the sole primary key to happiness is a false and harmful notion particularly in a culture which does not value wisdom and selflessness at all. Be Yourself is the cry, but so many people are lost in a cultural ocean of narcissism and emptiness 
How can young people truly ‘find themselves’ when being the ‘right self’ is dependent on fashionable over sexualised whims which can be met with drugs, surgery and paraphernalia. This outward changing of ‘self’ is a poor substitute for a more substantitive inner self realisation
We need a new set of ideas which leave behind the worst of the toxic religious beliefs about the brutal sublimation of self expression and the modern supposedly progressive idea that you can be anything you want to be - which is just as much a lie.
