The mesmerizing Dhanushkodi is the last road of Bharat and the site of Ram Setu. #Thread
Situated ~20 km from Rameswaram in the Pamban Island TN, Dhanushkodi is one of the cleanest beaches in Asia.
It is generally abuzz with tourists and offers a serene environment with soft white sand enveloping the shoreline which is surounded by sapphire blue water (2/n)
Dhanushkodi was once a bustling and flourishing town – with houses, schools, church, temple, a post office, and a railway station. Thousands of people resided in this tiny town, which was known as one of the richest fishing belts in the country. (3/n)
Also, it was the only land border between Sri Lanka and India and served as a major port for several pilgrims and traders.The temple and the church in the town were visited by many devotees, making it a preferred tourist spot. (4/n)
But now it is an abandoned town as economic activities of the town had failed due to natural disasters. This town was hit by the 1964 cyclone in Rameswaram city and it is uninhabited since then. (5/n)
Dhanushkodi is said to be the last land of Bharat as one is just 25kms away from Sri Lanka when in Dhanuskodi. The Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal meet here. The sight is mesmerising and majestic. (6/n)
Apart from the coastal charm and the mysteries attached to the place, there’s one more thing that makes Dhanushkodi a really unique place to visit. And it dates back all the way Ramayana (7/n)
The town of Dhanushkodi is believed to be the place where Bhagwan Rama had asked Hanuman-ji to build a bridge which could carry his army across to Sri Lanka, where Ravana had kept Maa Sita captive and it was here that the Ram Setu was built by the Vanar Sena.

At this beautiful place one could gaze upon the chain of reefs, sandbanks and the islets that almost connect Sri Lanka with Bharat. The place is said to have mysterious aura with a lot of people suddenly experiencing a feeling to deja-vu here. Magical and mesmerizing..!!! (9/9)
