This is honestly one of the best things I’ve read on twitter, thank you @actionheroteach (great handle by the way!) 1/3 https://twitter.com/actionheroteach/status/1284087533622693889
This very explicit pressure placed on kids at GCSE level is endemic and largely a result of league tables. Really, what schools mean is ‘these exams are the most important exams you will ever take, for us, not for you.’ 2/3
GCSEs are simply not that important, as this smart pupil correctly inferred. Meanwhile, what gets diminished in the over-focus on GCSEs? Education as a thing of value in its own right, kids wellbeing, fun and friendship, schools as communities, staff wellbeing, plenty more.. 3/3
