West Ham United 2019/20

Six games that almost got us relegated and six games that saved us.

A thread:
Game that almost got us relegated #1

02/11/19 - Newcastle (H) - L 2-3

From the second we saw Zabaleta starting against Allan Saint-Maximin, we knew we were in trouble.

Poor Zaba got slaughtered and we were 3-0 down inside 51 minutes. We pulled 2 back but it was too late.
Game that almost got us relegated #2

09/11/19 - Burnley (A) - L 0-3

Arguably West Ham’s worst ever goalkeeper dropped his worst performance in a West Ham shirt at Turf Moor.

The third goal literally saw him punch the ball into his own net. The less said about it, the better
Game that almost got us relegated #3

26/12/19 - Crystal Palace (A) - L 1-2

We led 1-0 in this game, one of many times we let winning positions slip this season.

Former Hammer Kouyaté equalised before Jordan Ayew turned into prime Ronaldinho in the 90th minute to win it.
Game that almost got us relegated #4

28/12/19 - Leicester (H) - L 1-2

Leicester fielded a team without Chilwell, Söyüncü, Ndidi, Tielemans, Maddison and Vardy.

And they still beat us on our own ground. Shocking result that led to Pellegrini losing his job.
Game that almost got us relegated #5

10/01/20 - Sheff Utd (A) - L 0-1

When Snoddy put the ball in the Blades’ net in the 93rd minute, West Ham fans went crazy.

But VAR ludicrously ruled the goal out due to an accidental handball in the buildup, leaving us all fuming.
Game that almost relegated us #6

01/02/20 - Brighton (H) - D 3-3

We were 3-1 up at home to Brighton with just 15 minutes left, but managed to cock it up spectacularly.

Glenn Murray scored a controversial equaliser that was given by VAR, despite the ball hitting his arm.
Game that saved us #1

30/11/19 - Chelsea (A) - W 1-0

We’d gone 2 months and 8 games since we last won when we rolled up at Stamford Bridge.

Aaron Cresswell scored the goal as David Martin had a debut to remember, keeping a massive clean sheet in his first game.
Game that saved us #2

14/12/20 - Southampton (A) - W 1-0

A real nail-biter on the south coast. Haller scored a huge goal, before Antonio’s second was ruled out by VAR for a handball in the buildup.

Southampton battered us, but we held on for a massive three points.
Game that saved us #3

01/01/20 - Bournemouth (H) - W 4-0

David Moyes’ first game back in charge ended in a 4-0 win over our relegation rivals.

Haller and Anderson scored, and Mark Noble scored a brace to give us our first home win since September.
Game that saved us #4

01/07/20 - Chelsea (H) - W 3-2

It seemed like VAR would screw us over again when Souček’s goal was wrongly ruled out. But we fought back to lead 2-1.

Willian equalised before Yarmolenko scored a last-gasp winner, sealing a league double over Chelsea.
Game that saved us #5

11/07/20 - Norwich (A) - W 4-0

A “must-win” game against a Norwich side who were all but already relegated.

Antonio went full Ronaldo and scored all 4 goals in a 4-0 win. He became the first West Ham player to score 4 in a match in the Premier League.
Game that saved us #6

17/07/20 - Watford (H) - W 3-1

A win would guarantee safety due to our superior goal difference.

Antonio and Soućek scored before Rice scored an absolute thundercunt to put us 3-0 up at half time.

Watford pulled one back, but we held on for the win.
