So ... we're packed! Tomorrow we leave #Pakistan after two extraordinary and eventful years. We will take with us many memories of our time in this amazing country, but here are a few of the particularly special ones… 🇬🇧🇵🇰📦🌏✈️(1/9)
First, the cities. Nowhere does cities like south Asia, and nowhere does south Asian cities like Pakistan. #Lahore has to be our favourite (sorry Karachi) for its beguiling blend of history and culture. Our visits there left us hungry for more! 🇬🇧🇵🇰🕌🎨🎶
Second, the countryside. When we arrived in Pakistan, we had no idea how diverse the landscapes were: green, lush forests, jagged, snow-capped mountains and hot, dusty deserts. My favourite? Three days in Chitral and the Hindu Kush! 🗻🏔️
Third, the fruit! Wow. What can I say? Pakistan doesn’t just have the best #mangoes we’ve ever tasted, but also best peaches, grapefruits & strawberries (not to mention cherries & apricots from Hunza). We’ve made pies, jams, ice cream and chutney from them all! 🥭🍓🍑🍒
Fourth, the #cricket. I came to Pakistan unpersuaded about the sport (sorry!). And unfortunately we only went to one match (in Rawalpindi, @islunited vs @PeshawarZalmi). But what a game! The energy and enthusiasm were fantastic! So glad cricket has come back to Pakistan. 🏏🏏🏏
Fifth, the Royal Visit, one of the most ambitious and logistically challenging in recent memory. Behind the amazing images (and there were many!) lay a fantastic team of people at @ukinpakistan making it all work. It was a privilege to be part of such a historic moment.🤴👸🇬🇧🇵🇰
Sixth, day trips from Islamabad! We didn’t see as much of the country as we wanted. But boy, did we exhaust the options around our adopted home city! From Taxila to Rohtas Fort, to Nathia Gali and the Katas Raj temples, it’s an amazing part of Pakistan. We loved every trip. 🚗📷
Seventh, the Margalla Hills. In the heat of summer and the cool of autumn, our fondest memories will be of the hikes, picnics and swimming trips. The hills truly make Islamabad one of the greenest, most beautiful cities in the world. (And the kids loved the monkeys!) 🌳🌲🥾🐒
Eighth, the people. Pakistanis are some of the warmest, friendliest, most hospitable people you will ever meet. And Pakistan’s history as a cross-roads of the world means the diversity of faces is extraordinary. Thank you for taking us to your hearts. We’ll miss you. ❤️
Ninth, and finally, the truck art! What a bright, beautiful and uniquely Pakistani art form, and one that has enlivened many of our road trips. And what better way than to sign off this thread. Goodbye Pakistan, we love you! 🇬🇧🇵🇰👋
