A long time ago (2013?) John Lewis agreed to be the guest editor of the alt-weekly in Atlanta where I worked. Before we closed that week's issue, I asked him why had he agreed to work with a little newspaper like us?

He said that the little newspapers had carried the civil rights movement. He called it "wings", that the little papers had given the movement "wings." When we asked for his contributor photo, he sent his mugshot.

I've never worked on a newspaper that I was more proud of than working with John Lewis on that one. I wish I could remember everyone who worked on it. It wouldn't have happened without @andrewaydin @DebsMichaud @thomaswheatley . I'm sad that we lost him tonight
