Worth noting particularly given Arizona has been as hard-hit as any in this second spike in Covid infections. https://twitter.com/brucefeldmancfb/status/1284234603511701504
An excellent thread on the Arizona success... again, after the early messes at LSU, Clemson, K-State and Houston, things have gone very well. More have shut down, all for brief periods and with less cases. Thankfully, we’ve had zero serious illnesses. https://twitter.com/cfishman/status/1284255949205712898?s=21
The bottom line: college sports themselves can be made to be pretty safe — we can have masks in the locker room, distancing on the sidelines, face shields on football helmets, and more. It’s all about behavior by student-athletes and the people around them when NOT in the gym.
Can we eliminate all cases? No, particularly with more community transmission. But if everyone on campus does their part, we can prevent outbreaks & return to college sports relatively safely. Same thing as the MLB, which has had great success on its testing numbers so far.
