1. Americans seem to identify themselves with their work. Upon meeting someone, one of our first questions is "what do you do." I hear that this is a very American thing.

But what do people say when first meeting someone in other countries? Seriously curious. I want to try to
2. not make work such a part of our identity. What happens, more often than not, is if you have a "job" instead of a "career," people tend to look down on you. We don't look at all work equally here and if you don't work, well you're deemed as worthless.

I want to stop that!
3. What else can we ask each other when we get to know someone new?

Other questions we Americans seem to ask a lot:
*what do your parents do? *what does your [partner] do? *where are you from? *what are you?
