Lie number 1: Police claim that protesters were “making statements about wanting to enter Southeast Precicnt and burn down the property.”
What actually happened: Protesters chanted “What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? Now! If we don’t get it? Burn it down!” (Livestream from @R3volutionDaddy, follow + donate to them!) https://www.pscp.tv/DefendPDXreporters/1mnxelPjMlPJX?t=17m46s
Lie number 2: Police claim that protesters were lighting fires on East Burnside Street.
What actually happened: Protesters burned an American flag. Poo-Poo police got in their feelings over a piece of cloth. https://twitter.com/johnnthelefty/status/1283992712081891329
Lie number 3: Police claim that protesters “cross to Southeast Precinct property.”
What really happened: Protesters never gained access to the precicnt. They blocked a small driveway (lit on map) and the police line (poo on map) blocked access to the facility/parking lot.
Lie number 4: Police claim that they made “several targeted arrests” at around 11:40 pm.
What really happened: Portland Police recieved reinforcements some time around 11pm. Around 11:40, the riot line sprinted full speed at protesters (with no warning). Many were knocked to the ground and injured by baton blows. https://www.pscp.tv/DefendPDXreporters/1BdGYnDdoWXJX?t=2m15s
Lie number 5: Police claim a vehicle almost hit officers on foot.
What really happened: Cops break someone’s window, they attempt to reverse, cop car T-bones them, riot police vioelntly tackle driver. https://twitter.com/danielvmedia/status/1284065302951559169
Why does this matter? Portland is recieving national media attention because of intense state violence. Many outlets that report on protests, including some local corporate outlets, do not have reporters on the ground. Instead, they rely on the narrative concocted by the PPB...
...without questioning the claims. Cops are notorious liars, and the PPB has been caught lying on numerous occasions. Remember the concrete milkshakes?
