Hey I wanted to talk about the discussion on Trash Taste this week about Anime YouTube, cause I know my Digest is being subtweeted and I wanted to discuss it. I timestamped when they start talking about it and it more or less goes on the rest of the ep
First off I just love hearing about their perspectives, this is exactly what I wanted out of the podcast. Enjoy their shit or not, they've been around for a long time and go through a lot of the same things, so I value what they have to say even though I might disagree with it.
The biggest thing I took away was their point about smaller anime YouTube comparing or sizing up each other's content, even ranking which are the best, which no other YouTube community seems to do. Which is completely right and I somehow never realized how weird that actually is!
Funny enough I was gonna make a HUGE tier list for Digest's 1 year anniversary, but now I'm pretty self conscious to do it. Why does it matter really?

But it was odd to hear how they saw it as a big circle jerk. How channels our size just make videos for each other so it becomes this echo chamber that never grow or evolve their content? Frankly I don't know how much they even watch our stuff, cause for who is that the case?
idk anybody making vids *specifically* to favor other YTbers. It's always either to please their audience or themselves. Other YTbers may be part of that audience, I certainly value them, cause they know what I go through to make vids, it's literally artists liking artists wtf 
If anything I think everyone is growing and getting better because we discuss our content, it shows a desire to improve. There's points later where they discuss periods of how dissatisfied each of them were with their content, I'd think hearing feedback from other YTs would help.
And to me, it sounded like they blame *THAT* for why we don't get views, or aren't bigger. It's not cause we aren't talking about MHA, or Bleach, or hentai, or the latest mobile game, or seasonal anime. It's cause our vids just aren't that good.

They contrast this with anime youtubers who were "outsiders" or weren't influenced by Digi I guess. Demo, Eyepatch Wolf, *Scamboli?* They're not doing the same tired old thing, they're doing things "different."

I agree Demo, SEW and even Scamboli can make pretty good content. But it's like they equated their success to the quality of content alone. Absolutely not true, it was so weird hearing them talk about how important title/thumb is but never acknowledge the popularity of a subject.
idk it just kinda sucks they boiled down what I've been trying to do with Digest to just a circle jerk. Tbh, yeah, it's functionally a circle jerk.

And I'm making this about me and Digest because I'm obviously the one pushing this narrative the most. It's hard to not to listen to this and not think that's what they're talking about, how could I otherwise when I know at least one of them watches it?
CDawg was driving this conversation most, with Joey and Gigguk agreeing/egging it on, and especially when he...idk, "mocked?" how he saw someone said "X person had poor clip selection," I *knew* he was talking about me.

Now like, I'm happy Connor watches, and the way he seemed careful talking about other people in this ep, he's clearly weary of his reach and probably didn't want to mention me cause...they JUST talked about how insane the internet can be, so maybe I might get a TON of shit?
Cause frankly I think they painted most of us as pretty foolish. Like oh you're being silly for thinking this vid is better than that vid. Just...chill out, I guess? I'm surprised you don't have an opinion as someone who makes them too? Maybe cause you don't watch any? Do you?
Like I just felt "othered" by it, y'know? *I'm* the weird one. Sorry but I don't think treating this as an art form and telling creators what I thought of what they made is weird. Do I take it SUPER SERIOUSLY? I mean...to the extent I make a long video every week about it, sure?
But I guess this is good for me to reflect on, I like to champion self-awareness so when my actions are discussed like this it might ultimately improve my content and myself, and if you're not growing you're dying. Still, kinda bummed this was how the convo turned out.
I want to be clear that I want to be friends with most people, especially people who make stuff like me. In a way I'm certainly looking for attention by making this thread, but then again I've made this something I really care about, so of course I want to talk about it!
I mean, idk what I want from this exactly...I just want to say that I disagree that we make content to please other YTs instead of an audience, that's not why we don't have 1M subs, and yes you're absolutely right I am ASS AT MAKING TITLES AND THUMBNAILS ITS WITCHCRAFT OKK????
