Equating Massey College with 'academia' is akin to equating the Rideau Club with Parliament. Yes, they share members and are in close quarters, but they aren't at all the same thing. https://twitter.com/nationalpost/status/1284240804890935299
I know that's an imperfect comparison. Massey is 'in' UofT, etc, etc. But it's not an academic department.
Canadian academia has lots of problems. Who gets to take part in the happenings at a posh-ish residence+ isn't really one of them.
What problems, you ask? I dunno. Maybe how universities and colleges are going to weather the crippling financial and physical situation they’re about the face while still delivering quality courses and research.
And you’ll forgive me if I don’t take these to be the words of a man genuinely concerned with academic freedom.

I’ll now retreat to my leftist ivory tower to prepare courses dealing with the nuances of constitutional monarchy and how to equip the armed forces with sophisticated weapons systems.
