THREAD: (1) I packed in my permanent job and went traveling in 2001; in 2003 I first went to Argentina and shortly afterwards the #LUFC nightmare that had seemingly begun with an FA Cup defeat to Cardiff (viewed from a bar in the French alps) became a reality.
(2). Ballsed up opportunities to bounce right back eventually saw the further agony of an administration and a double points deduction which saw us down to L1 with the 2nd 15 point deduction being wiped out under Dennis Wise and Poyet in the 1st 5 games of the L1 season.
(3) From what I recall during my Argentina years there followed much fannying about and a mix of promise and failure and a rather good FA Cup win in the environs of Salford ... but Lucci Becchio was a link (not the 1st) with Argentina that has provided fond memories & gratitude.
(4) Over the league 1 years I flitted between Argentina and Uruguay and occasionally back to Blighty. Twitter (originally joined to promote a website but rapidly usurped by #lufc ) became a mainstay for me and those were the best years I ever had on here.
(5) Memories of me logging in to LUTV from cafes in Buenos Aires over a Quilmes or 10 and of my time in Uruguay travelling by bus from my lil farmhouse early morning from Rosario to Colonia del Sacramento just to get a WiFi signal and have a beer while listening to the game ...
(6) and memories on one of those days sat in the shade of a lil plaza in Colonia del Sacramento waiting for my favourite cafe with WiFi to open and blubbing (I'm a soft twat) as I managed to get a wifi signal and heard Andy Hughes' letter to the fans read out ...
(7) memories during those years of the great #lufc Twitter friends I had then and still have now even if some don't tweet as often. Memories of lufc anagrams! And Twitterwhites awards. All pure daft fun ... but what a larf we all had ...
(8) and then memories of that day when I sat alone in my appt in BA with no WiFi of my own piggy backing on neighbours when we escaped the clutches of L1 with that win over Brizzle R. Then blubbing like a baby on Twitter before legging it down to a cafe to chug lots of Quilmes ..
(9) and then once back in the Championship we were going to sweep all aside and go right up again weren't we ... ahem ... it took a while #lufc
(10) and there have been times when it has felt like we genuinley might never get back. But finally after 16 long years, we ... finally ... have. Thanks Marcelo. Words do not seem enough. And thanks to the players. Fuck me it's been painful. But with #lufc it always is. X.
