So another new rollout with USPS's new PMG is coming through the pipeline, and it's another big FU to some of our most loyal customers. I'll try to keep this thread short for everyone's sake.
Effective immediately, many offices around the country have begun rolling the start times for carriers to as much as 2hrs earlier than they were starting previously. Some offices it's as little as 30mins or an 1hr, but the effect is the same.
The biggest problem with this is that clerks, especially in short staffed offices, already struggle to meet distribution time schedules, meaning the mail isn't always ready for carriers AS IS, and we were left waiting for their finish.
Now, however, with carriers starting earlier, even MORE mail is not distributed in the mornings, and the NEW directive is that that mail simply does not "make the cut" and is delayed.
BUT, more importantly, this earlier arrival time, in conjunction with carriers now being instructed to do office-related tasks in the PM rather than AM, means we are getting to our first delivery addresses as much as 2hrs earlier than usual. Good, right?

Nope.
Even though most routes made up largely of businesses are structured so that carriers won't reach them until normal business hours have opened, offices where this rollout have occurred are already acknowledging these adjustments will mean we arrive at businesses before they open.
For many businesses without significant outgoing mail needs, this change may be insignificant. But for the thousands more that rely on massive daily pickups of parcels and letters, the effect may be that you no longer see your mailman.
Carriers are being EXPLICITLY told not to backtrack for these businesses later in the day, too, meaning hundreds of thousands of daily parcels and letters may be delayed from even entering our system... Again, a burden being put directly on our most loyal customers.
This is another initiative being pushed by PMG DeJoy as a cost cutting move, with the excuse given to us being "competitors don't offer this dedicated pick up window, so neither should we since it costs too much."
This kind of thinking is not only contrary to USPS's past commitment to service, but also undercuts the entire brand of guaranteed service. Running as a business that sees no reason to differentiate itself is a GUARANTEED way to lose customers to the private outfits.
It is the kind of move ONLY pushed by a PMG with no concern for the integrity of the agency he oversees, and with an eye only toward helping the same private sector that he crawled out of.
Again, we are being asked to cut off many loyal business customers from a service they have always relied upon. This damage to brand could be irreparable by the time DeJoy is done.

Please, contact your reps. Heck, even harass your local USPS mgmt. Make a fuss they can't ignore
(As a footnote, this has not happened directly in our own district or office as of yet. It is, however, confirmed to be in place in an immediately adjacent district, as well as at least a few others throughout the country)
