THREAD: @deafidentity Ever since the news broke that face masks and face coverings are now becoming mandatory here in the United Kingdom, it’s filled me with dread.
Like many within the #deaf community, I rely on lipreading and recently found myself in a situation where I came across a shop assistant wearing one who got irritated and annoyed with me. Simply because I didn’t catch what they said. 😖
I found myself getting embarrassed and flustered and it was only after I left that I WISH I’d said something. So, my new phrase for @deafidentity has now dropped live onto http://deafidentity.com  as a statement to the public. Be patient. Be kind. Be aware.

It’s really not hard! And if you do come across somebody who is deaf and you’re wearing a face mask, please don’t treat us like aliens 🥴 Learn the basics of #SignLanguage or simply write things down! 👏🏼
