Here the real world consequence of Trump’s deliberate rollback of testing.

1/ I just left Danbury. Since June, turnaround for test results has gone from 24 hours to 7-10 days.

That means if we have a new outbreak, we’re toast. Can’t control spread if results take 10 days.

2/ It’s also a big part of the reason Texas and Florida and California can’t get control of the virus.

Give a COVID positive person 7 days to spread, while everyone waits for results, and the game’s over. 20 more people have it now.

3/ For months, we’ve begged Trump to take over the testing supply chain. @tammybaldwin and I wrote legislation to mandate it.

But Trump did the opposite. He ordered testing to be rolled back, bc he thinks high numbers make him look bad.

4/ He wasn’t joking. He meant it. And now the testing companies are overloaded, there’s no national effort to stand up more lab capacity nor require the supply chain to fill the production gap.

Trump got what he wanted. Less testing ability.

And now people will die.
