So Fred Dimbleby, son of David Dimbley, is the “journalist” that harassed Corbyn on the doorstep and was one of the two white, privately educated editors of @Cherwell_Online (an Oxford University student newspaper) who reduced me to tears because of articles they got their team
to write about me and Ray ( @hooraywilliams) when we were co chairs of @OxUniLabour (Mar 2018-Jul 2018) - two BAME co chairs just an fyi - heavily implying that we were antisemitic for inviting Richard Seymour ( @leninology) to speak at OULC because of things Seymour had written
years ago in his blog that we weren’t aware of (we invited him as he was the author of a book about Corbyn). When Cherwell emailed us about these comments, we emailed Seymour about this and he gave us a lengthy response distancing himself from his past
comments and clearly expressing regret. We even met with Oxford JSoc about it and they were supportive of us (as seen in the comment they gave to Cherwell) yet the headlines in the Cherwell articles made it out like we were standing by some antisemite. Ray even questioned Seymour
during the event about his past views and again Seymour was apologetic. Members of the Cherwell team were there at the event but obviously no article was published about Seymour distancing himself from his past comments at the OULC event because it just didn’t fit the image they
wanted to paint lol. All of this is made even more ridiculous by the fact that earlier in our term, Ray and I had written a statement, in our capacity as co chairs, condemning the way the party had handled antisemitism (which was reported on by Cherwell at the time). I think it’s
fair for me to say anyone that knows me and Ray knows that we‘ve never been silent on the issue of antisemitism in the party. Cherwell were basically trying to engineer another OULC antisemitism scandal that just wasn’t there and it really hurt me and Ray and resulted in us
getting accused online of being antisemites by random Oxford Lib Dems. I remember crying so much about all this, thinking my reputation had been permanently damaged and thinking I’d lose the trust of Jewish comrades and my catastrophising brain being convinced employers wouldn’t
hire me because of those articles they’d find if they searched my name.
So in summary, I’m not fucking surprised Dimbleby is still showing absolutely no journalistic integrity. But who needs journalistic integrity when daddy will guarantee you a job after uni eh?
