This follows Florida's actions, where, a month ago, it was reported that the one of the architects behind Florida's COVID dashboard was fired for reporting the data.
Around that time there was an increase in concerns that data was being manipulated

By state governments to make things look better in their states. Why anyone would ever do this is anyone's guess, but mine is that it's probably tied to money. Without commerce and people coming/going, it's hard to collect taxes on goods/sales

With states reopened they could do more business, collect more tax on sales, have local jurisdictions gain more money from law enforcement ticketing individuals and gain the added benefit of helping people get back to work faster to make rent

Here's why this is a big deal:
#1 first and foremost, if you don't publicly post the data, you can manipulate it to your liking. You can make it seem like there's less cases, or no cases, as Trump has said he wants

a.) Trump is a huge narcissist, so we cannot rule out that he may have the data doctored before being posted so he can make sure everyone thinks he's doing a good job protecting people. But there may be a financial reason;

b.) The economy is tanking due to COVID and Trump has focused a lot of his political career on the economy. He wants the economy to succeed by any means necessary, so it might make sense to reopen the country and get things back to normal to help the economy.

C.) It could be something more sinister than that. If the economy is re-opened, there's a higher chance of infecting people. More infections means more people to sell the vaccine to when it's finished, and more people to sell this to in the meantime.

So if there's no data to show that there are covid-19 cases and, surprise! You get COVID-19! All of a sudden those claims about covering people "during the pandemic" go away. Gov coverage of people after the pandemic ends would be unnecessary spending

So even though the pandemic wouldn't really be over, they could stop paying for sick people, and could instead charge people and make big profits for big pharma. Esp since the remdosivir drug to ease treatment is all ours.

And of course, observant people will remember a day or two ago how some medical companies said they'd cover the price of vaccines for free "during the pandemic". If there are no cases of COVID in the USA, there's technically no pandemic. Do you really trust big pharma to be fair?
