The American finds paternalism repugnant because it limits his assertion of himself as his own master. It is unsurprising that democracy to him is the greatest good: the abandonment of the authority of the patriarch, a national household of children actualizing its own interests.
Paternalism to him is represented by any and all things that impede his cult of decadence. He has since corrupted the balance of law, of order, and of duty. His only law unto himself being that which he wills from his lower desires.
American identity is absent because of its mantra of disassociation. His environment is vain and his future aimless. In the American canon, the individual reigns supreme. He endows himself with the scepter of choice and in matters of destiny, he has decided upon the bitter fruit.
Attempts to restrict what he holds as his highest function are seen as repressive, ungodly. To the American, his freedoms are liberating, "god-given" although no proof can be found for this claim.

The converse is in fact, true.
Restriction is divine; Freedom on the other hand is man's moral enslavement to himself.

Man's assignment from his God was one of duty: responsibility to the maintenance of environment and of his fellow creatures.
God never once offers man abstract rights justifying self-service
Rights, the fictitious things that they are, are nothing more than a seemingly virtuous excuse for liberalism. Rights carry with them no inherent concern for obligation. Rights are the Reasonist's justification for licence, the pretense for the pursuit of desire.
What then is the essence of this cult of freedom that the American so relentlessly worships? He has sacrificed his soul and children for it. He lends his dignity at a price if only to define himself as "free".
The American malfunction is that he is "free from". He has unbound himself from all the elements of life which hold him in symmetry with nature. Americanism itself can thus be identified as nothing more than a great "undoing" of all the structures that have preceded it.
Americanism is the emergence of anti-authority, the outward rebellion against the harmonies of hierarchy.

The formless mass that moderns know as "America" descended from the deconstructionism of the Enlightenment, installing itself as the ultimatum of the new national paradigm.
If all design follows purpose, the American rejection of meaningful design reduces purpose to a formula of social challenges to be overcome by its heirs, its highest value being dismantling and death. Nothing beyond material reality is created, none save allowance is perpetuated.
The foundation of the American claim is the coronation of Reason as the principle and the dethronement of national fellowship with God and king.

Any interference with its licence is perceived as a trespass. Any inconveniences of traditional thought are registered as tyranny.
America will dissolve because of its origins. It has formatted itself by secularism, humanism, and openly worships rebellion. Rebellion in fact is its only established religion. None others are tolerated.

All things begotten by liberalism will perish by liberalism.
