What its like growing up in White, Rich, areas of Wisconsin, a thread:
Sophomore year of high school I had a boy tell me that he’d never met anyone who didn’t believe in god or was a democrat. (you are 15-16 sophomore year) He was genuinely surprised I did not believe in the same things as him.
the same students yelling “blue lives matter” right now used to say Fuck 12 when the drugs dogs would come or their party would get busted.
I was a TA for a Spanish class that was for kids my age during my senior year. A boy told the teacher that it was stupid to take “Mexican” because in America we speak English. (You has to sign up to take a foreign language. it was completely optional)
At my job a man told another girl working with me (who was wearing a mask) that if she wanted to wear a mask so bad she should just become "one of those muslim terrorists"

Side note, customers also get very angry when the card machine asks them to pick a language.
We had to take Citizenship and during class a boy stood up and proudly announced he was a Republican. When the teacher asked what that meant the boy said “I don’t know”
We had an MLK Assembly at the highschool during which we talked about privilege, diversity, and equity. Shortly after, those conversations were banned in the classroom after severe backlash from parents.
I attended a BLM protest in my town in which a man approached me and told me that black people just wanted to commit crimes and get welfare from the government and that they did this because of fatherless families. He did not listen to anything I said.
In my high school English class a boy told told the teacher to her face that “all teachers are just libtards and it sucked he had to learn from them”
In 8th grade I wrote an essay about Roe v Wade and in the paper I defended the ruling. The teacher did not let me present my paper to the class but allowed the boy who wrote his essay in favor of less gun control to present.
In middle school when we were learning about the government we each got to be a president for the lesson. I was Barack Obama and a boy asked what it was like to be married to a Monkey. The teacher just asked him to be quiet.
I had a friend who’s parents wouldn’t let her come with my family to Bastille Days in Milwaukee because Milwaukee was “the ghetto”
My mother had a friend who refused to tell her kids about their gay aunt because she “didn’t want them exposed to that lifestyle”
There were multiple pick up trucks with confederate flag stickers on them in the school parking lot.
a (white student) made and distributed “N word passes” to his (white) friends
Freshman year a girl came to a football game in black face and was upset when she was told to take it off
The people here do not wear masks, or social distance. The bars and restaurants are packed every weekend.
