If you think the rule of law does not apply to Shemima Begum, then you do not believe in the rule of law.

The rule of law does not prima facie judge who is beneath it for they are. That is the role of its systems in actions. But first she must be placed in front of such systems, which this good ruling has allowed to happen.

She is a daughter of Britain, whether we like it or not. And if you think that we should cast our criminals on the rest of the world, then frankly you do not believe in our most deeply held values and institutions.

She has committed an ungodly crime against this nation. She has brought shame to this nation and our values. She must be brought back and tried against those values, those laws, those expectations which she was endowed to fulfil.

If we are to call ourselves a liberal nation then we must try the enemies of this nation in a liberal fashion. A method of empiricism, fairness, decorum, and process.

To do otherwise is to insult her victims beyond all comprehension.

If you conservatives see her as some cancer on this nation which must be cut out and incinerated then you do not understand how to deal with this problem.

When our children are badly behaved we do not exile them. We discipline them at home. We break them into a new moral epoch.

If we abandoned her we give other vile individuals the idea that they may act against this nation abroad and be free of it. Free to continue to act against it but merely be banned from returning to a place they hate.

Enclosing them, judging them, and humiliating them in front of their peers, which is the entire basis of the rule of law, will reinforce our value system in a value-less anarchy.

It is the best solution. Indeed, it is the most just for all parties.

There is a reason we have not cast off the reasoned deliberation of juries for the unreasonable deliberation of Twitter and Facebook.

Mob justice is no justice at all.

If you are a socialist, you will support this justice for the crimes she has committed against your proletarian comrades in Syria.
If you are a liberal, then you will support this justice for the crimes she has committed against reason, against indivuals, and against the law.

If you are a conservative then you will support this justice Becuase you support this nation’s institutions of the rule of law, you care about our society’s international image and the image of ourselves, and you care about what this nation does, not what it neglects to do.
