I don't know who needs to hear this, but honestly, no one is getting anything done right now. You're not uniquely useless or broken. The bar is "Are you eating at least once a day? Are you showering maybe once in a while? Are you staying home when you can? You're doing amazing."

I'm sure that someone is going to show up and tell me about how great they're doing and you know what, fine, maybe you are.

But I've talked to a lot of people about it this week, and the *vast majority* of us are not, and everyone is miserable and upset about it.

But the goal right now is stay alive, and to do your best to protect other people in your community by staying home when you can and wearing a mask when you have to go out. That's it! That's the bar.

And to be clear: I hate that this is the bar. I'm struggling with it, and I don't think that I'm special or unique in that. Sometimes clearing this bar means you're spending the day crying at every cute animal and eating fistfuls of dry Cheerios.

You're still clearing the bar.

I don't have anything insightful or uplifting to end this thread with, because, like everyone else, I'm...you know. I'm here. I did dishes today. I contemplated the futility of everything I've ever done. I cried in the shower.

I just wanted to tell you that it's not just you.

Ok, I want to say some more stuff. Some people have responded to this with things like "lol I hate people like this, must be nice but I gotta work".

First: very valid of you to hate me, I am exceptionally unlikable.

Second: Lots of people are working right now, and it sucks.

Some people are working from home, and it sucks. Some people are (maybe) temporarily unemployed. Some people are stuck working in an "essential business", suddenly a hero, a super important employee, but you make shit wages and have few protections, and that's fucking *garbage*.

But if you're mad at the people working from home, or the people who lost their jobs and can get unemployment, or the people who were already unemployed, you're mad at the wrong people.

We—all of us, every single fucking person on the planet—should be furious with every CEO and every governor and every administration and every wankstain in a business suit who looked around and decided that the most important thing here is ~keeping the economy going~.

The correct response, at all levels, should have been "Unless you are directly involved in healthcare services, we, either your country or your company or a hybrid of both, will pay you to stay home."

This is a thing that could have happened. Instead, it mostly didn't.

Governments and businesses just looked around and said, in their very best Lord Farquaad voice, "Some of you will die, but that's a risk I'm willing to take. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ "

That's fucking bullshit and every single person *on the planet* should be mad about it.

And before anyone comes in here all "Uhm did you know that DENMARK did— JAPAN did—"

I fucking know. They should still be angry because we should all be angry because we all live on this planet and literally all we can do is be kind to each other and defend each other's humanity.

No one should have to pick between homelessness and exposing themself or their loved ones to a plague, and the choice to put people in that position was governments and business types who looked around and thought, "Sure, people will die...but at least the money won't be sad!"

I still have no good closing. This still sucks, and none of us should be in a position of having to attempt to be productive right now. I'm sorry.
