Instead of trying to fight strangers on the internet because they don't know how USPS fckn works lemme give y'all a small rundown as a former postal carrier for a small (100,000 people) town:
1. They don't get funding from taxes/government!! They are an independent branch & rely on stamp/postage sales to keep them afloat.
2. Postal workers cannot strike (Postal Recognition Act of 1970), they can negotiate wages, benefits, & conditions, but no striking allowed.
3. Their prices are dirt cheap to allow access to EVERYONE in the US, not just who is profitable. Rural carriers can drive 30 min out to a route to deliver mail & it costs the same as city mail!
4. Your office probably covers more area than you realize: our single office delivered to the surrounding municipalities/counties/etc. so with an office of maybe 60 people, we serviced closer to 150,000-200-000 residents.
5. Your brand loyalty & supposed better handling practices for UPS/FEDEX? It doesn't matter, FedEx and UPS give their overflow to USPS to finish the last leg of delivery. They give the last relay to USPS to limp to the finish & let UPS/FEDEX win the medal.
5.1. If you try to claim damaged packages in USPS are wildly high compared to other companies, please look at how often each is used in the mainstream. (I've had packages destroyed by every postage carrier company, nothing is 100% foolproof)
6. Yes, there are awful mail carriers, and there are amazing carriers. Recognize that it's like any other business, of course there will be better/worse locations.
7. They RELY on overtime. Career carriers go home after 8-10 hr, regardless if mail is leftover. Carrier assistants then pick up the slack & deliver the rest. Eliminating overtime will bring the mail steam to a GRINDING HALT. (imagine holiday season mail times all year long)
7.1 Eliminating overtime is a proposed way that they will be able to start afloat, and it'll cause an exponentially growing delay in mailing times. 3-5 days? Probably 3-5 weeks.
8. At the ground level? There's no competition between carriers. Our office only had positive relationships with FedEx/UPS workers. Once you're a worker in package hell you're all on the same playing field. (except not really bc USPS hasn't gotten new postal trucks since the 70s)
9. If you don't want your package thrown then don't give it to literally anyone, either a machine or a human will jettison your package into the proper route, so just use a lot of stuffing lmao. â˜ș (lmao @ watching baggage handlers toss suitcases onto trucks)
That's all I can think of at the present moment but pls feel free to RT anything or ask me questions!!!

Final note: dogs hate mail carriers, they will jump thru windows and attack carriers. Pls keep ur dogs and carriers safe and don't let them interact. 🙏
I'm glad this thread is gaining attention and helping ppl learn about USPS/why we should fight to keep it alive!! This is from the USPS website. Pls buy their products, contact your state/local reps about what we can do at the ground level, and keep fighting my friends. ✊📭
