Kick-off of the first ever virtual but 3rd UK Annual Implementation Science Research Conference #impsci20 - first up: how to effectively do stakeholder engagement in implementation science and challenges to co-productive relationships https://twitter.com/ARC_S_L/status/1283765252971278337
“Involving stakeholders early on in research is fundamental to implementation”. We ensure this in @gameChangeVR through the engaging service users and staff, informed by a LEAP. I’m presenting a poster on involvement and stakeholder engagement in gameChange at #ImpSci20 (P14)
“How do we stop engagement just being a one-off token and then carrying on with the rest of the project?” - make stakeholder engagement a constant throughout research, recruit an advisory group, have accountability throughout. #ImpSci20
Work with partners who advocate for stakeholder engagement. @gameChangeVR LEAP is run by @McPinFoundation who have expertise in user involvement in mental health research and the LEAP informs all strands of the study, including implementation strand led by @NIHR_MindTech
Impact and implementation from a funders’ perspective: spend time thinking about the problem, make sure you understand it before you turn to solutions when applying for funding #ImpSci20
Think about your influence and who you want your research to influence in advance. Remember: Impact takes time. Average time for research to have an impact is 17 years (not gold standard) #ImpSci20
@NIHRresearch funding research to gather learning during design and delivery to inform future implementation as opposed to real world evidence #ImpSci20. @gameChangeVR won the i4i challenge award in 2017.
