The opportunity to engage in research has been a privilege of studying here. In the summer of 2018 I undertook a 12 week UROP placement with Dr Alastair Culham, studying the molecular phylogenetics of Scilla. @george_garnett 4/9
Work from this @UniRdg_UROP project was published https://doi.org/10.1080/23802359.2020.1720543, and the skills I gained from the experience enabled me to fulfil similarly exciting research in my final year project. 5/9 #OpenAccess
Working in an active research group has been a formative experience, I’ve made new friends and have reaffirmed my desire to pursue a career in plant systematics. I’m co-author on a poster to the #Botany2020 conference in USA this month. 6/9
I’ve been fortunate enough to volunteer in the excellent RNG herbarium, which houses 400,000 specimens and is still actively curated and utilised in botanical research and teaching to this day. One of the last few University-based herbaria in the UK. 7/9
The inter-university botanical university challenge has been running for three years now, with Reading so far winning every year. I’m proud to have been part of the team for the last two years alongside some great botanical minds. 8/9
Whilst these highlights reflect my interest in plants, the opportunities afforded at Reading are diverse and there really is something for everyone here! 9/9
