THE DUNNING-KRUGER EFFECT

Stumbled across a cognitive bias that could be humorously applied to FPL Have a look at my FPL graph below, read the thread, and let me know: are you victim to the ‘Dunning-Kruger Effect’? #FPL #FPLCommunity

1) The Dunning-Kruger Effect is a cognitive bias whereby people who are incompetent at something are unable to recognise their own incompetence (Kruger & Dunning, 1999). Further, not only will they feel competent, they will feel high confidence in their ability too!

2) In other words, incompetent novices will believe they are even more competent than experts. Therefore, on occasion, those that are most opinionated and confident that they are ‘correct’, are perhaps the most incompetent

3) Indeed, as shown in the image below, this initial over-confidence is colloquially termed ‘The Peak of Mount Stupid’ the lowest point as the ‘Valley of Despair’, the rise as the ‘Slope of Enlightenment’and the final product, the ‘Plateau of Sustainability’ ...
