In many nations, particularly those invaded or 'settled' our ancestors made grand mistakes. Our mistake is not being born of those people, but being complacent with their mistakes. Accepting of the results. Resistant to making amends and extend equality and equity to all.
What we (primarily European/British descendants) need to accept is equality is not all living the same way, the western standard, but all living a full life by their definition even if that means returning to ancestral ways of life. We CAN adapt to that.
There was a time where our ancestors made native people adapt to their ways by force. Now, as modern people, we have a choice to adapt ourselves. No one is forcing us, we are free to be proud of our adaption. We are free to share freedom.
If we want to be proud of a white heritage, then we have to do something to be proud of. It's not enough to say 'but we don't do those things anymore'. No one won an award for doing nothing. We have to challenge our ways of life so all human beings are equally valued to all.
And finally stop NEEDING to see people as a they and an us. Because right now acknowledging that is important. But wouldn't it be amazing, one day, to just be one big us. A species, collectively proud. Collectively mindful. It starts with attitude and personal sacrifice. YOU can.
