The main reason why I prefer the apocalypse genre to the post-apocalypse is that, by it’s very nature, the former must present the end of the world. The moral is that all things, be they just or cruel, end. Nothing will survive the ocean bluff.
Conversely, the post-apocalypse genre is about perseverance. Of things surviving the worst thing ever. As a consequence, there’s a tendency to see old systems regurgitated into the post-apocalypse. Post-Capitalist Solarpunk worlds with Farmers Markets.
The cruel systems the apocalypse was meant to destroy survive while other, less cruel ones don’t. The cycle begins again, leaving only husks in its wake.
So anyway, I just beat The Last of Us Part II.
