Lampard The Transition manager [A Thread]
This is going a more casual thread, also check out @3rdManRun his tweets today really got me thinking and made me write this thread, particularly his Lampard thread. https://twitter.com/3rdManRun/status/1282094552619327488?s=20
If I'm being totally honest, from the rumours to the announcement and right throughout the season Lampard never fully convinced me. It's more or less the boss's son getting the promotion.
He did improve around Feb but sometimes I watch us and think, he doesn't have a clue what he is doing. Yes, our board have made their fair share mistakes but they are smart people and hiring Lampard for 1-2 years makes an awful lot of sense.
Put yourself Roman's and Granovskaia's shoes. It's 2019, Chelsea has been slapped with a transfer ban, it is in the worst state that it's been in since 2003 and it was clearer then ever Chelsea lacked an identity. They needed a radical change. Hiring Allegri doesn't cut it.
The squad was also stale and poor in quality, they had many talented youth players part of the loan army so ideally, they needed to get involved and needed to bring the club to a stage where they could attract the best of the best.
The manager needed to be huge, it needed to be different. What is better than hiring your record goalscorer and one of the best ever midfielders to play in the Prem. He understands the club hence able to forge a new identity and is young progressive and will spark change.
This is what I reckon Roman wanted out of Lampard and he got it.
1. A new identity
2. A clear pathway from Cobham to the first team
3. Reasonable league performance and deal with ban+post Hazard
4. Arguably the most crucial, setup the squad for the next manager.
Lampard certainly met that criteria, if he leaves today, Chelsea as a club is in a very good position and probably a better position than anyone would have anticipated.

1. We have a new identity, there is a fresh and positive feel about the club, we are in a new chapter.
2. The pathway to the first team seems as of now.

This is essential as we do have some quality players in the academy rn who we can't waste. They can go on loan, rotate on the bench, become starting players. If they fail at any of the stages, they can be sold for profit.
3. Chelsea is still Chelsea. Lampard needed to maintain performances, this is an underrated element. Despite the majority of people saying they would give Lampard time and wouldn't care if he finished 1st or 10th. I guaranteed this would not happen.
I think he is slightly overperforming and has done a good job. He has also dealt well with the ban and no Hazard, arguably much better then many top managers would have. If we make top 4, that is superb.
4. Setting up the squad is one of the most important parts of his job if he truly is a transition manager. Whether he did it intentionally or not, he did it well. We had many young players, who have mature both football-wise, mentality wise and assets wise.
If Lampard goes this summer or the next, the current squad is full of many players who will hit their prime and improved as footballers. Due to Lampard's style of man-management, (explained in 3MR's tweets) they are very good winners and with a strong work ethic.
Finally, they have become much more valuable if the new manager wishes to sell them. Tammy Abraham is a good example. I'm still on the fence but it is very likely that a new manager will sell him. August 2019, you are getting 30mil max, August 2020, you could maybe get 50 mil
That is just internally but he has also done a very good job externally. Lampard, Cech and the board has done a good job of making Chelsea a very appealing project, Werner and Havertz don't come to Chelsea last summer. Chelsea is a club to join and Lampard's work is a big reason.
Where do Chelsea go from here?
I say give Lampard this summer, huge quality control in terms of signings and start to sell off some deadwood. Make sure UCL football is achieved next season then let Lampard go at the end of the 20/21 season.
The new manager will have a talented and versatile squad, a good budget to work with and a club with a fresh feel all round. Look at Tuchel or Nagelsmann and bring the league title to Stamford Bridge.
Cheers for reading, hope you enjoyed the slightly more casual format and I'm sorry if I reiterated my point at all. Let me know your thoughts This is a bit of a theory on Lampard's appointment and where the club could be heading. Likes, RT and follows are appreciated.

Just a clarification, this doesn’t imply that I want Lampard out. It’s more of an explanation of a theory I have.
