BEIS has refused to act on modern slavery. On 18 October 2018, at their request, I briefed senior BEIS officials about it (outside the garment industry) in person, and sent them documents which they ignored.
When, after conversations with the Anti Slavery Commissioner, I raised the matter publicly, I got emails from the Commissioner's office asking me to withdraw my comments (I refused) following (I have this in writing) an intervention by the Home Office.
Minimum wage enforcement is a bad joke. Since 2010 (latest available figures 2019 because BEIS appears to have stopped publishing them in 2020) is a pathetic seven minimum wage prosecutions since 2010. https://www.theyworkforyou.com/wrans/?id=2019-01-31.215216.h
