Extraordinary gas-lighting from Priti Patel. THREAD.
Minimum wage enforcement is the responsibility of BEIS which it contracts to HMRC. If there are racism fears, they are her Government's.

We have all known about this stuff for years. Here is @sarahoconnor_'s 2018 piece. https://twitter.com/JolyonMaugham/status/996987137449971712?s=19
BEIS has refused to act on modern slavery. On 18 October 2018, at their request, I briefed senior BEIS officials about it (outside the garment industry) in person, and sent them documents which they ignored.
When, after conversations with the Anti Slavery Commissioner, I raised the matter publicly, I got emails from the Commissioner's office asking me to withdraw my comments (I refused) following (I have this in writing) an intervention by the Home Office.
Minimum wage enforcement is a bad joke. Since 2010 (latest available figures 2019 because BEIS appears to have stopped publishing them in 2020) is a pathetic seven minimum wage prosecutions since 2010. https://www.theyworkforyou.com/wrans/?id=2019-01-31.215216.h
Final, important, point. Of the flood of important recent cases against tech platforms - like Uber - for breaching minimum wage laws, how many has Govt brought?
Yep, precisely zero.
