Queer identity gatekeeping is a side effect of neither of those words that makeup the acronym being 100%^ accurate, because they can't possibly be, combined with good ol' selfishness. And it's bloody stupid because the words in that acronym are all a fiction.
2SLGBTQIA+ is a growing mnemonic nightmare made to acknowledge the myriad of identities that, together, just mean "not cisgender heterosexual" and is a thing because "cisgender heterosexual" was modern society's standard meter stick, decided without consent from those outside.
"Lesbian" is a loose term that originally meant, roughly, "woman doing something my priest disapproves of"

"Gay" was...well..."happy", etymologically speaking, but basically meant "flamboyant male possibly into butt stuff" wrt queer identity.
Eventually it just meant 'attracted to the same gender' whatever originating gender of a defined binary. And finally to whatever gender of a spectrum. AKA, it also morphed.
The T shifted from transvestite to transexual to transgender which is a far more accurate definition of it. But it sometimes encapsulated NB people, but not every NB person feels it belongs to them. How much of that is due to gatekeeping and the effects of transmisogyny who knows
But obviously, NBs who don't feel 'trans' describes them b/c of a feeling the experience is too different between the two should have their wishes honoured and not lumped in. Because, again, ALL THESE WORDS ARE MADE UP.
Human sexuality isn't a binary. We either find someone attractive or we don't. Full stop.

Gender isn't a binary. We express ourselves as we feel we should, full stop. We click within similar identities or we don't, full stop.
Humans are complex beings at the whims of erratic head porridge and who knows how many microfauna and endocrines pulling levers in the other regions.

The ONLY reason we have those words is to tell someone who's defaulting into categorizing everyone as...
...a _very_ specific variant of someone who's gender and birth genitalia match a specific template and who's solely attracted to another similar Stepford creation that we do not in fact fit that rigid definition.
That's precisely why I prefer "queer". If we call cishet 'straight', 'queer' is the opposite. We aren't in that template. Also, that template is bullshit.

So when someone says "You can't be a lesbian if" or "you can be bisexual if" or "you can't be trans if" you're...
...drawing lines in the sand at high tide. These words shift their meaning all the damn time because they're rough approximations that, in the end, means "I'm not a Normal Rockwell painting."

So cut it the fuck out. Peace.
