To anyone at @UWaterloo or @uwaterlooHREI feeling hurt or offended by the unapologetic nature of the @equityforwho movement:

Understand that strategic & intentional anti-racism work aims to dismantle the structures that keep BIPOC folks down within the institution. 1/ https://twitter.com/drcstaylor/status/1281912013363519488
The same structures that protect, coddle, & provide institutional power to white folks:

A) Policies that normalize whiteness (& POC w/ proximity to such) while pathologizing Blackness

B) Curricula that deems racialized scholarship "secondary" or "irrelevant to the course" 2/
C) Admin that ground their equity work in the fear of liability instead of the desire for liberation & well-being of marginalized communities

D) Hiring practices that function to maintain the status quo; a "good fit" hire so often results in white heteropatriarchy replicated 3/
E) Equity units lead by white women or gay men w/ no history or experience of anti-racism, who use their femme & gay identity to absolve themselves of responsibility to BIPOC students.

Equity without a race or class analysis is simply pink white supremacy đź‘€ @uwaterlooHREI 4/
@equityforwho is intentional anti-racism. It is strategic & using the necessary means to achieve its goals of designing a safer, kinder, & more just @UWaterloo.

Understand that going up against institutional and structural white supremacy is complicated and ruthless work 5/
Allies, it's time to uplift Black & Indigenous folks fighting the systems you purport to despise, and have vowed to take down
