Today, I’m torn between advocating for my ideal world, in which a theme park would not have to open during a pandemic in order for tens of thousands of people to pay their rent, and acknowledging the real world, in which it does.
All I know is that if 100% of your energy goes to shaming the workers and visitors of a theme park and 0% of it goes to shaming local, state, and federal governments for not taking care of its people, then you’re wasting your time and energy.
Should the companies have done more for their workers? Absolutely. Could they? Most certainly. Could they have for a long period of time? I’m guessing no. Disney has a lot of capital, but it’s not inside a Scrooge McDuck vault that they’re shielding just because they’re evil.
By all means, shame big corporations. They are absolutely at fault too. But we cannot expect a corporation to do more for the people than the government. Not only is it not realistic. It’s dangerous.
